Job Description

Focuses on the technical side of privacy, ensuring Claude never sees or leaks private user data. As an AI Data Privacy Engineer you are the technical architect of our data protection layer. Your mission is to solve the paradox of AI: how to provide Claude with enough context to be useful without ever exposing Personally Identifiable Information (PII) or sensitive corporate secrets. You will design and build the "Privacy Gateway" that sits between our users and the LLM. This involves implementing automated redaction, differential privacy, and secure data handling protocols. You will ensure that every byte of data used in RAG or training is compliant with global privacy standards (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) and that the AI's "memory" is inherently secure.

Key Responsibilities:

Anonymization, differential privacy implementation, and data lifecycle management.

  • Privacy Architecture Design: Creating technical frameworks for data minimization and anonymization in LLM workflows.

  • Automated Redaction Systems: Developing and maintaining high-accuracy PII scanners that intercept and mask sensitive data in real-time.

  • Data Governance for RAG: Implementing Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) at the embedding level to ensure the AI only retrieves data the user is authorized to see.

  • Privacy-Preserving ML: Implementing techniques like Differential Privacy or Synthetic Data generation for model evaluation and testing.

  • Technical Audit Support: Providing evidence of data handling practices for regulatory reviews and client security assessments.

Key Activities:

Implementing PII scanners, managing data retention policies, and encrypting data at rest.

  • PII Pipeline Engineering: Building Python-based services using Regex, NLP (Presidio), or specialized NER models to scrub logs and prompts.

  • Differential Privacy Implementation: Applying mathematical noise to datasets used for AI benchmarking to prevent individual re-identification.

  • Data Lifecycle Automation: Scripting the "Right to be Forgotten" within Vector Databases, ensuring specific user data can be completely purged upon request.

  • Secure Enclave Management: Managing Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) or confidential computing instances where sensitive AI processing occurs.

  • Risk Assessment: Collaborating with the Compliance Lead to translate legal requirements into technical code constraints.

Academic Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science or Privacy Engineering: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, Data Science, or the relatively new field of Privacy Engineering.

  • Differential Privacy Theory: Deep academic understanding of Differential Privacy (DP) frameworks to add mathematical noise to datasets, ensuring individual real estate transactions cannot be re-identified.

  • Privacy-Enhancing Technologies (PETs): Specialized knowledge in Homomorphic Encryption, Secure Multi-Party Computation (SMPC), and Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs).

  • Advanced Data Anonymization: Mastery of K-anonymity, L-diversity, and T-closeness models for structured real estate databases (MLS feeds).

  • LLM PII Detection: Expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP) specifically for the automatic detection and redaction of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) within long-form text.

  • Knowledge of Global Privacy Regulations: Academic and practical mastery of GDPR (Europe), CCPA (USA), and Mexico’s LFPDPPP, specifically regarding "automated decision-making."

  • Data Minimization Principles: Theoretical knowledge of how to architect data pipelines that only collect the absolute minimum data required for Claude to function.

  • Machine Unlearning: Research or coursework in "Machine Unlearning" – the ability to remove specific data points from a model’s training set or RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) memory.

  • Database Security & Encryption: Proficiency in implementing Field-Level Encryption (FLE) and Tokenization in both SQL and Vector Databases (Pinecone/Weaviate).

  • Information Theory: Understanding of Shannon Entropy and information leakage to quantify how much "private info" an AI agent might be revealing in its responses.

  • Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA): Academic grounding in conducting formal audits to identify and mitigate privacy risks before a new AI feature is deployed.

  • Federated Learning Foundations: Knowledge of decentralized machine learning techniques where data stays on local agency servers while the AI "learns" centrally.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

CIPP/E, Python, deep knowledge of data masking techniques.

  • Technical Privacy Mastery: Deep understanding of K-anonymity, L-diversity, and Differential Privacy.

  • Programming: Advanced Python and experience with data engineering tools (Spark, Airflow).

  • Encryption Expertise: Proficiency in Homomorphic Encryption or secure multi-party computation (MPC) is a major plus.

  • Security Frameworks: Familiarity with OWASP Top 10 for LLMs and NIST Privacy Framework.

  • Certifications: CIPT (Certified Information Privacy Technologist) or CDPSE (Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer).

Work Experience:

3+ years in Data Privacy or Security.

Daily Job Schedule:

The daily job schedule will follow the standard working hours of the company, typically from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. However, occasional flexibility may be required to meet project deadlines or collaborate with remote team members.
